Rail Information
The Texas City Terminal Railway Company
provides an important land link to the port, handling over 25,000
carloads per year. The Port of Texas City's success as a privately
owned port has been aided by it's shareholders, the Union Pacific
and Burlington Northern Santa Fe, whose connections allow for
expeditious interchange of their traffic.
Port crews provide
switching in the Texas City area, inside the Port and for all
industries and businesses requiring rail service. Connections with
main lines are made daily by the switching terminal at two junctions
within six miles of the main classification yard. Efficient handling
is a priority at the Port of Texas City. Rail crews strive to place
all inbound and outbound loaded cars either in the plant or to the
connection within 24 hours of customer instruction. In support of
this high level of performance, the Port maintains and operates
three MP1500 horsepower EMD locomotives, over 32 miles of modern
well-maintained trackage, and a state-of-the-art railroad track
scale for customer use. Along with expeditious switching, the Port
works hard to maintain safe handling conditions.
TCT rail
cars primarily transport chemicals and dry bulk commodities. Port
crews routinely handle hazardous materials safely and in compliance
with all pertinent regulations. In recognition of their safety
efforts, the Port has earned the TSA Award of Honor by the Texas
Safety Association. Hand in hand with this strong field effort is
the Port's focus on customer support. Harbor and railside operations
are continually under review to ensure quality performance, and
changes are implemented to streamline service as needed.
